Mrs. Voncile Carnes Hilton, 89, of Lancaster, wife of Curtis Rayford Hilton, passed away Friday, June 19, 2020 at Lancaster Health and Rehabilitation. She was born March 18, 1931 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Leroy Plas Carnes, Sr. and Bertha Stacks Carnes. Mrs. Hilton worked as a bookkeeper at Lancaster County Natural Gas Authority for 30 years. She was a member of Pleasant Dale Baptist Church. When she was younger, she taught children in Training Union and new member orientation. She was also GA leader and sang in the choir. She enjoyed teaching the Ladies’ “C” Sunday School Class for many years. She would study all week to prepare for Sunday. She was a veracious reader, and had read hundreds of books and usually had one in her hand when you would visit her. Most of all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grands. One thing most people will remember about her is she would give you an opinion whether you wanted it or not. The family gives a special thanks to the Monday Morning Outreach for their faithful visits and friendships during her last years.A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Hilton will be held Monday, June 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the graveside at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Jessie Adams officiating.Mrs. Hilton is survived by her husband of 55 years, Curtis Rayford Hilton; a daughter, Kathy Porter Hall and her husband Dennis of Lancaster; a son, Ray Hilton (Julie Phillips) of Lancaster; a sister, Rachel Combs and her husband Don of Augusta, Georgia; two grandchildren, Matthew C. Jackson and his wife Meria of Carrollton, Virginia and Heather Hilton of Lancaster; and three great grandchildren, Jacob, Ellie and Oliva Jackson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hilton was preceded in death by a grandson, Larry M. McManus and a brother, Leroy P. Carnes, Jr.The family will receive friends at the home of Kathy and Dennis Hall.In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be sent to Pleasant Dale Baptist Church – Building Fund, 113 South Potter Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mrs. Hilton.
