The Rev. Dr. William Harold Owens, 81, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at his home. He was born May 18, 1937, in Inman, SC, a son of the late Joe Thomas Owens and Louise Raines Owens. Dr. Owens was married to the former Virginia McManus of Lyman, SC.Dr. Owens was a graduate of Chapman High School, Class of ’56, Inman, SC; Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute (now college), Hendersonville, NC; Luther Rice Seminary, Jacksonville, FL; and Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary, Newburg, IN. He was a compassionate pastor and faithful minister of the gospel for more than 45 years. He was ordained to the gospel ministry by First Baptist Church, Lyman, SC in 1971. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Lancaster, SC.During Dr. Owens ministry he was a pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Old Fort, NC; New Hope Baptist Church, Lancaster, SC; Philadelphia Baptist Church, Marshville, NC; and Calvary Baptist Church, Lancaster, SC. Also during his retirement years he served a number of churches as supply preacher and was interim pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Lancaster; Sherwood Baptist Church, Lancaster; Sisk Memorial Baptist Church, Fort Mill, SC; and New Hope Baptist Church, Lancaster. Dr. Owens also was Minister to Senior Adults at Immanuel Baptist Church for seven years. In addition to his passion for preaching the gospel, Harold enjoyed planning and hosting trips for his church family and friends. He, along with his wife, Virginia, also enjoyed traveling, having visited 30 States and 3 foreign countries including Israel, Mexico, and Canada. They also enjoyed taking cruises on the ‘big ships.” Harold was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.Dr. Owens is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 ½ years; three sons, Michael Owens and his wife Karen of Lancaster, Joel Owens of Lancaster, and Todd Owens and his wife Sharon of Kannapolis, NC; three grandchildren, Crystal Owens Christopher and her husband Ryan of Fort Lawn, SC, Heather Owens and her fiancé Austin Clark of Pageland, and David Owens of Kannapolis, NC; a great-grandson, Colton Christopher; a great-granddaughter, Scarlett Clark; two brothers, Ray Owens of Boiling Springs, SC and Kenneth Owens of Spartanburg, SC.In addition to his parents, Dr. Owens was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles Owens, Edgar Owens, Paul Owens and Joe Owens.The Celebration of Life Service for Dr. Owens will be Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church by Rev. Tim Anderson. Entombment will follow in the Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.
