William (Bill) Henry Williams, Jr, aged 73, passed away Tuesday, May 5th at the Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Columbia, SC, after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Bill was born December 29, 1946 to Dorothy Mary (Murney) Williams and William Henry Williams, Sr in Lancaster, OH. He graduated from Walnut Township High School in 1966 and was subsequently drafted by the US Army in July of 1967. Bill served in Vietnam and received the following honors: National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. Upon returning home from the service, Bill met Carolyn Sue Syrus and the couple married March 6, 1970. They had two children; William Tracy, November 19, 1970 – February 26, 2015 and Cristina Adele July 14, 1981. The family moved to Florida in 1989. Bill enjoyed many hobbies including playing the drums and golfing, baseball, basketball and karate where he achieved the rank of 4th degree Black Belt in Shorin Ryu.Survivors include his wife Carolyn of 50 years, daughter Cristina, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sister Janet, brothers Jerry and Bill, and many nieces and nephews. Bill was cremated at Lancaster Funeral Home, 709 North White Street Lancaster, SC 29721 and his ashes were interred at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC.
