Sarah Hazel “Sally” Sharp, 78, passed away Saturday June 9, 2018. She was born April 27, 1940 in Concord, N.C., the daughter of the late Mary Hazel Small Sharp and the late James Marshal Sharp. She graduated from Lancaster High School and Limestone College with a degree in elementary education. She taught in North Augusta, SC and Brunswick, Ga before adventuring off to teach 20 years in Kodiak and Anchorage Alaska. She taught first and second grades. She always said she felt like she was the same age as her students.After retirement Sally divided her time between Lancaster, Charleston and widespread traveling in North America, Europe and Australia. In Lancaster she was a member of First Methodist Church, a Red Cross volunteer, bowled in a league, and was a member of the Retired Teachers association. She was an avid reader and lover of animals and nature.She became a resident of Springhill Assisted Living in Pageland where she enjoyed many activities. She joined Zion Methodist Church (Pageland) and was an active member of the choir, UMW Circle, and the YAHOO Senior Group. Her interest included reading, listening to music, sending cards to family and friends, working word search puzzles and making colorful artwork. She was also an avid golf fan. When she won a contest for reading the most books at the Pageland Library, The Pageland Progressive Journal newspaper featured her life story on the front page. Sally made the most of life, wherever she was. She never met a stranger and was a friend to all she met.She is survived by a sister, Barbara Sharp Ballard Gibson of Lancaster; two nieces, Jennifer Ballard Page and husband Tim of Lancaster and Mary Beth Ballard Lyles and husband Alan of Spartanburg and four great nephews, Ethan Lyles of Spartanburg and Jonah, Elijah and Samuel Page of Lancaster. Services will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in the chapel at Lancaster Funeral Home, (709 N. White Street). Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. The Celebration of Life service will begin at 11 a.m. with interment immediately following at Lancaster Memorial Park.In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Zion Methodist Church of Pageland (671 Zion Church Road, Pageland, SC 29728), First Methodist Church of Lancaster (PO Box 608, Lancaster, SC 29721) or Springhill Assisted Living (514 South Gum Street, Pageland, SC 29728)Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Ms. Sharp.
