Mr. Robert Brown “Bob” Knight, 93, of Lancaster, widower of Grace Nicholson Knight, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 19, 1923 in Lancaster, a son of the late Thomas E. Knight and Lilly Mattox Knight.Bob was a proud U.S. Marine veteran of World War II serving in “Carlson’s Raiders” of the famed 2nd Marine Raider Battalion-in among their campaign, the longest Marine patrol in history, behind enemy lines on Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands-November 1942. He was honorably discharged after being wounded and from there he graduated from USC Berkeley with a degree in accounting. After returning home, he started an accounting business which he had for 50 years. Bob was also the founder of Lancaster County Water and Sewer district, its first chairman and first operator. After retirement, he obtained his certification in heating and air from York Tech and ran Bob’s Heating and Air for many years. He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church.A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Knight will be held Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 3 pm with Military Honors at Sherwood Baptist Church, 1030 Darlene Blvd. Lancaster, SC 29720, with the Rev. Rusty McAlister officiating.Mr. Knight is survived by his son, John Richard Knight and his wife Patricia; his daughter, Julie Knight Hudson and her husband Clay; four grandchildren, Kimberly McManus (Michael), Jason Knight (Cheryl), Hollye Ansell (Shane) and Josh Hudson; seven great-grandchildren, Kassie Boone, Patrick Boone, Noah Boone, Jay Knight (Amber), Kathrine Knight, Ally Ansell and Tristan Ansell; one great-great grandchild, Teegan Knight; and many nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Sherwood Baptist Church Social Hall.Memorial contributions may be made to Home Care and Hospice of Lancaster, 901 West Meeting Street, Suite 201, Lancaster, SC 29720.The family of Mr. Knight would like to thank all the staff of Home Care and Hospice of Lancaster for their outstanding care to Mr. Knight and his family during his final days and for his wonderful care to him at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC.Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mr. Knight.
