Mr. John Joseph Planz, 86, of Lancaster passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Rock Hill Post Acute Center in Rock Hill. He was born August 4, 1931 in Queens, New York, a son of the late William and Julia Harrington Planz. He had retired from Ford Motor Company. He was a loving companion, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 151 in Middletown, New York, Past Commander of American Legion Post 31, in Lancaster, SC. He was a former member of the Hazmat Team in Orange County, New York and a former volunteer fireman at New Hampton, New York Fire Department and a former member of Vet Fireman’s Association in New York. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Planz will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Lancaster Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Birchfield officiating. Mr. Planz is survived by his Lady, Birdell C. “Bernie” Lea of Lancaster; a son Scott Lea and his wife Margaret of California; a son in law, Matthew Yazejean of Monroe; a daughter, Brandy Sweisberger and her husband, Kevin of Lancaster; twelve brothers and sisters; four grandchildren, Michael Lea and his wife Michelle, Johnathon Lea and his wife Kelly, Randy Sweisberger and Chase Sweisberger; two great grandchildren, Levi Lea and Taylor Lea; and many friends that are family.
