John Barney Newell

Mr. John Barney Newell, 100, of Lancaster passed away Friday, December 6, 2019 at his home. He was born May 11, 1919 in Anderson, SC. a son of the late Thomas Newell and Sara Lee Hall Newell. Mr. Newell joined the U.S. Army in 1944 and fought in WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam. After 21 years of service he retired from the Military. Mr. Newell enjoyed watching cowboy movies and reading his Bible. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Newell will be held Monday, December 9, 2019 at 2 p.m. from the graveside at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Trent McLaughlin officiating.Mr. Newell is survived by two step daughters, Margie Kennington and Judy Hunter Simpson both of Lancaster, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Mr. Newell was preceded in death by his wife Ollie Faile Miller Newell, two sons, Tony Newell and Mickey Newell, one step son Harold Miller, and his daughter.Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mr. Newell.Read Obituary
