On April 25, 2022, Jeanne Hourigan Burch, 88, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving family. Jeanne was born in Gravel Switch, Kentucky to the late Roy B and the late Mary C Hourigan. As a youth, Jeanne came to know the Lord at Beech Fork Baptist Church and went on to become the president of the Baptist Student Union at Berry College. After moving to Lancaster in 1978, she became a member of First United Methodist Church. While attending Berry College in Rome, GA, she met “the best man she’d ever known,” the late Arthur M. Burch, her husband of 65 years. Jeanne was an elementary school teacher in Georgia before retiring to become a fulltime homemaker. During her retirement, she volunteered with the local Literacy Council, tutoring adults to read. She enjoyed decorating her homes, flower gardening, and was an avid reader. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.Jeanne is survived by her two daughters, Ruth Cooley (Doug) and Elizabeth Arant, her beloved sister, Darnell Davis (Herman) of Spring Hill TN, sisters-in-law Jane Hourigan of Lexington, KY, Frances Crumbley of Hiawassee, GA & Jane Burch of Kingstree, GA, brothers-in-law William Abb Burch (Mary) of Jonesboro, GA and Ted Bridgewater of Louisville, KY, grandchildren, Joshua Arant (Shelby), Kaleb Arant (Savannah), Sean Cooley (Austin) and Skye Humphries (Jeremy), a great grandson, Ryker Cooley, and a very special niece, Dr. Alice Hardin of Asheville, NC as well as over fifty nieces and nephews with their beautiful families.Visitation will be held at Inman United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Fayetteville, GA on Saturday, May 14 at 2:00 PM. A graveside memorial service will be held in the church cemetery at 3:00 PM.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Educational Foundation of USC-Lancaster, memo: Arthur M.
