Herman Ester Steele Sr.

Mr. Herman Ester Steele, Sr., 93, of Lancaster, widower of Janette McDow Steele, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at his home. He was born December 9, 1924 in Waxhaw, NC, a son of the late Roy Sinclair Steele and Nora Myrtle Therrell Steele. Mr. Steele was a member of Douglas Presbyterian Church where he was former Elder, Sunday School Secretary and Treasurer and President of the Men’s Fellowship. He was also Chairman of Lancaster County Water and Sewer Board for 50 years. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Steele will be held Monday, April 23, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Douglas Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Harriss Ricks officiating. Private inurnment will be in the Douglas Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Mr. Steele is survived by three sons, Herman E. “Sonny” Steele, Jr. and his wife Donna of Clayton, NC, Alfred “Doc” Steele and his wife Janice of Lancaster and Roy Steele and his wife Brenda of Lake Wateree; six grandchildren, Staci Simmons, Lisa Crenshaw, Tessa Cox, Merriday Mabry, Scott Steele and Brad Steele; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Archie Lee Steele and Earl Steele; and two sisters, Myrtle Howie and Christine Schwartz. The family will receive friends following the service at Douglas Presbyterian Church.
