Heather Ann Steele, age 43 of Lancaster, won her battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. She was born to John McMurray and Carolyn McMurray on August 20, 1974.Heather attended North Meck HS, before attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She was an active member in the community and worked with both teenager girls and mothers of preschoolers (MOPS) in Waxhaw for many years. She also served at Second Baptist Church of Lancaster where she was a member.Family and friends were Heather’s passion and delight. She cherished spending time with them and enjoyed many lifelong friendships. As a 17-year Ovarian cancer warrior, Heather chose daily to fight with joy living out Philippians 1:6. She strived to connect and share Christ with others, especially survivor sisters and bless them as she would want to be blessed. Her goal was also to raise awareness for the symptoms of ovarian cancer, which include bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, trouble eating or feeling full quickly, and feeling the need to urinate urgently or often. She chose to fight with joy and thrive not survive!Heather is survived by her husband of 21 years, Richard Bliss Steele, Jr.; a son, Richard Bliss Steele, III; parents, John and Carolyn McMurray; a brother, David McMurray, wife Sarah McMurray; a sister, Becky Kania, husband, Patrick Kania; mother in law, Carolyn Jean Blackwell Steele; a sister in law, Kelly Steele Rourk, husband, James Rourk; a sister in law, Tracy Carol Hudson, husband Michael Hudson; and five nieces and nephews; Jimmy Rourk, Jonah Rourk, Sara Grace Hudson, Sally Hudson and Kamryn Lynch. She also leaves behind three chosen daughters Rebekah Courtright, Rachel Johnson and Ruth Johnson and numerous loving relatives and friends.The memorial service will be Saturday the 12th at 2:00 pm at Second Baptist Church, 1426 Great Falls Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720. The family will receive friends immediately after the memorial service in the Family Ministry Center.
