Mr. Eugene James Bowers, 85, of Lancaster passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at White Oak Manor. He was born April 9, 1932 in Lancaster, a son of the late Jasper Jackson Bowers and Viola Caskey Bowers. Mr. Bowers served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked in the textile industry with Springs as a supervisor of the opening and picker rooms for 43 years. Mr. Bowers was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as deacon and also chairman of the cemetery committee. He was a member of the VFW and former commander. In addition, Mr. Bowers was a former member of Jackson Lodge, Hart Lodge and York Rite.A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Bowers will be held Friday, July 21, 2017 at 11 am at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Steven Pace officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.Mr. Bowers is survived by his wife, Eursell G. Bowers of Lancaster; two sons, Wendell Bowers and Phillip Bowers and his wife Lori all of Heath Springs; six brothers, Anderson Bowers and his wife Louise of Heath Springs, Leo Bowers and his wife Shirley, Charles Bowers and his wife Maggie, Ted Bowers and his wife Amy all of Lancaster, Toy Bowers of Fort Mill, and Condor Bowers and his wife Betty of Heath Springs; two granddaughters, Jessica Bowers and Amanda Snipes; and two great-grandsons, Avery and Austin Snipes. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Benny Bowers, Herman Bowers and Glen Bowers; and three sisters, Mildred Duncan, Betty Allman and Mary Ormand.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2017 at New Hope Baptist Church.Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, 3731 Lynwood Drive, Lancaster, SC 29720.Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mr. Bowers.
