Mrs. Dorothy Ann Harper Marshall McDowell, 88, of Lancaster passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at White Oak Manor after a brief illness. She was born April 4, 1933 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Robert Biggart Harper and Lucille McKeown and was married to the late Whitfield Cook Marshall.Dorothy attended the University of South Carolina, Winthrop College and ultimately graduated from South Carolina State College in Orangeburg while living in Berkley County. She taught Mathematics at Lancaster High School for many years. After retiring, Dot used her creative talents to begin a craft business and traveled to craft shows across the southeast. In 2001, Dot remarried and became a RV enthusiast spending her winters in Florida and summers in Ohio. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. McDowell will be held Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Perry Evatt officiating. The family asks that those who wish to attend please wear a mask.Mrs. McDowell is survived by her second husband, James Irvin McDowell of Lancaster; her children, Eric (Jill) Marshall of Lancaster, Tammy (Ellis) Quarles of Columbia, and Rhonda (Bobby) Zboch of Monroe; her grandchildren, Whitfield and Furman Marshall, Megan Q. (Brandon) Sluder, Ashley Quarles, Zachary, Eben and Jace Zboch; her great-grandchildren, James and Marshall Sluder; her siblings, Robbie Lou H. Chesser and William Lewis Harper of Lancaster and Peggy H. Marshall of Greensboro, NC; and her sister-in-law, Sally W. Marshall of Columbia. The daughter of her present husband is Joann Roof (Doug) and her two sons, Aaron McDowell and Michael Cook, all of Ohio.Memorial contributions may be made to the Harper-Marshall Scholarship at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 128 Providence Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mrs. McDowell.
