Cornelia Carroll Long, 71, returned to her heavenly home on Sept 5, 2017. She was living independently and surrounded by loving family. She passed away at home suddenly of natural causes. She loved the Lord.Carroll was born in Bennettsville, SC on August 30, 1946, to Robert Ashley & Elizabeth Hassinger Joye. She was the second of five siblings in a close and loving family, and grew up in the church. On November 23, 1972 she married the love of her life William Chandler Long in Lancaster SC as they lovingly raised two sons, Robert & John Long. After graduating from the Presbyterian School of Nursing in 1967, she touched countless lives as a Registered Nurse working in North & South Caroline for 44 years, with the last three years spent as a travel nurse filling in for hospitals across the nation. She practiced medicine in pediatrics, trauma, cardiac surgery, infection control, intensive, and critical care. Her work in critical care touched her very deeply.Carroll loved a good laugh, and had a rare, "come as you are" way of loving people, never rejecting, never condemning, simply authentic compassion and she meant every word she said. She was kind and generous, caring and deeply loving. After her husband of 40 years passed away, she came to live in Acworth GA where she made wonderful new friends and companions she cared very deeply for, who in turn made her last few years full of wonderful memories and life.Carroll is survived by her siblings: Anita Joye Dunlap, Patricia Joye Moser, Roberta Joye Melton, and Robert Joye; by her children Robert Clark & Rebekah Ann Long, John Ashley & Elizabeth Anne Long; as well as her dearly loved grandchildren Tobias Bannon, Serinna Long, and Caroline Leigh Long, her namesake.A celebration of life will be held Friday, 8 Sept, at 11am at Summit Baptist Church in Acworth GA, with graveside service to follow on Saturday, 9 Sept, at 1pm at Lancaster Memorial Park.
