I was a reporter in Lancaster for The Charlotte Observer in 1979, 1980, and 1981. Buck was my competitor and also a friend -- one of the finest journalists I've ever met, caring about his community and the people in it. He loved to laugh, he loved to learn, he relished life and its ironies and many a time he saw the humorous side of an event. I moved on; Buck stayed, and Lancaster was the better for it. Rest in peace, John Monk, Columbia
So sorry to read about Buck, he worked with my dad at the Lancaster News. Another of Lancaster’s best has gone to his heavenly home 🙏🏻 Cherie Horne Ellis
Buck was 5 years older than me and a friend of my older brothers, Horace, Charles and Bob. They had many friends coming in and out of the home and so did I. I did not know Buck personally when I was six and more on the "Mill Hill." We became friends on Facebook several years ago. I learned what a fine upstanding man he was. I enjoyed his posts and pictures. He will be sincerely missed.
Rest in Peace, Buck.
Juanita, love and prayers for you and your family.
