Celia Tomberlin Featherstone, 85, passed away at Plantation Estates in Matthews, NC on July 14, 2018. She was born on October 29, 1932 to Frank Carr and Faye Black Tomberlin.Celia was a member of the first graduating class of East Mecklenburg High School and a graduate of Winthrop College. She taught school in Lowell, Mt. Holly, and Lancaster. While living in Lowell, Celia met her husband, Robert R. Featherstone, and they were married on August 11, 1957. During the years they lived in Gaston County, their three children, Melissa, Rob, and Ric, were born. In 1966, the family moved to Lancaster, SC where Celia taught science classes at Southside Elementary and Barr Street Middle School, and volunteered as an adult literacy instructor. In 2010, Celia and Bob moved to Plantation Estates in Matthews, NC. Celia was a caring wife, mother and grandmother who cherished hosting her family on holidays and summer vacations at her home on Lake Wateree in SC.Survivors include her husband, Bob; her daughter, Melissa F. Fearrington and husband, Jay, of West Simsbury, CT; her sons, Robert C. Featherstone and wife, Renea, of Hickory, NC and Richard R. Featherstone and wife, Leslie, of Greenville, SC; and nine grandchildren: Julia Fearrington of Cambridge, MA; Carr Fearrington of Farmington, CT; Clark Featherstone of Charlotte, NC; Brett Featherstone of Charlotte, NC; Ellen Featherstone of Malawi, Africa; Cole Featherstone of Boone, NC; Kate Featherstone of Greenville, SC; Blake Featherstone of Hickory, NC; Mary Featherstone of Greenville, SC. In addition, Celia is survived by her sister, Frankie T. Hinshaw and husband, Mike, of Charlotte, NC and her sister-in-law, Gwen F. Cathey of Matthews, NC.The family would like to thank Hospice of Charlotte and the Willowbrooke staff at Plantation Estates for exceptional care. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 20 at 2:00 at First Presbyterian Church, 700 N. Main Street, Lancaster, with visitation following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 990, Lancaster, SC 29721.Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mrs. Featherstone.
