Betty Jean Helms Barrett

Mrs. Betty Jean Helms Barrett, 85, of Lancaster, widow of Sanford Allen Barrett, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at MUSC Health – Lancaster Medical Center. She was born June 27, 1935 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late James Helms and Lydia Ann Almond Helms. Mrs. Barrett was a member of New Life Free Will Baptist Church. She had worked at Rock Hill Printing and Finishing for thirty two years and had operated Betty’s Outlet for thirty five years. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Barrett will be held Thursday, January 7, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Lancaster Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Pate officiating. Inurnment will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park Columbarium. Mrs. Barrett is survived by a son, Gary W. Helms and his wife Carrie of Lancaster; a daughter, Carolyn Lois Moree and her husband Gary of Fort Lawn; two brothers, Johnny “Bud” Helms and Bruce Helms and his wife Brenda all of Lancaster; a former daughter in law, Ginger Steele of Lancaster; grandchildren, Daniel Helms, Michael Helms, Steven Helms, Tonya Pearson, Dusty Helms, Amelia Helms, Jennifer Alford, and Brian Moree; and great grandchildren, Tyler Alford, Hannah Alford, Knox Helms, Jackson Helms, Nolan Helms, Little “D” Helms, Kinsley Moree, Paisley Moree, Charleston Moree, Rylie Weatherly, Emily Pearson, Katie Pearson, Abbie Pearson, Drew Sullivan and William Helms. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Barrett was preceded in death by a son Kenneth “Kenny” Helms; three brothers, Wayne Helms, Robert Helms and Joe Helms; and three sisters, Margaret Coley, Mary Faile and Ann Hinson. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Lancaster Funeral Home.
