Mrs. Ancel Pearl Smith Self, 82, of Lancaster passed away Monday, September 4, 2017 at her home. She was born February 16, 1935 in Columbus, Georgia, a daughter of the late Robert Smith and Lawsie Cox Smith. She was first married to Joe Byrnes then to Jim Self. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved watching the hummingbirds. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and family and talking on the phone to her special friends. She enjoyed being with her church family when they came to visit. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Self will be held Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 11:00 am at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Trent McLaughlin officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Self is survived by four daughters, Debra Watford and her husband Rex of Lancaster, Diane Privett and her husband Johnny of Monroe, Donna “Sherry” Arant of Lancaster, and Dale Starnes of Lancaster; a step son James “Robert” Self and his wife Melanie of Orlando, Florida; three step daughters; a brother, Lindy Smith of Atlanta, Georgia; a sister, Bobbie Brackins of Dothan, Alabama; a foster daughter, Crystal Starnes-Buff of Lancaster; nineteen grandchildren including Jay, Karli, Brandi, Tiffany, Alicia, Douglas, Baylee, and Trey that greatly supported her during her illness; and fourteen great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, and her husbands, she was preceded in death by daughter, Kathy Price and her brothers and sisters, Margaret, Robert, Leroy, Charlie, Herbert and Kathryn. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Lancaster Funeral Home and other times at the home.
