Mr. William Ray “Billy” Vassey, 84, of Lancaster, widower of Flossie Mae Walters Vassey, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 at his home. He was born May 31, 1930 in Marietta, SC, a son of the late Clarence Eura Vassey and Jessie Catherine Dearman Vassey. Mr. Vassey served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend who loved fishing and photography. Mr. Vassey retired from the Lancaster Telephone Company. He also worked as a civilian contractor for NASA.A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Vassey will be held Tueday, July 15, 2014 at 4 pm at Lancaster Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Inman officiating. Burial will be private. Mr. Vassey is survived by a son, Steve Vassey of Cayce, SC; two daughters, Rebecca Cordell of Lancaster and Melanie Stewart of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, Ryan Vassey, Anna Vassey Scott and Abi Stewart; and a great-grandchild, Ava Vassey. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Vassey Wilkins.Memorial contributions may be made to Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, P.O.
