Mr. William Moody “Bill” Mahaffey, 72, of Lancaster passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was born May 24, 1942 in Great Falls, the youngest son of the late George Frank Mahaffey and Iva Robbins Mahaffey. Mr. Mahaffey attended Great Falls High School and Elon College where he played football, ran track, and was the first recipient of the Elon SPARC award. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina Executive Development Program. Mr. Mahaffey retired from the Lancaster County School District. He was a longtime member of the Lancaster Breakfast Rotary Club where he served as Sergeant at Arms, Past President, and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, taught Sunday School and served on various committees.A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Mahaffey will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Billy Robinson officiating.Mr. Mahaffey is survived by his wife, Jane Raines Mahaffey of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a very special niece, Rebecca Raines Bridges of Rock Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, George Frank Mahaffey, Jr., Carol Lloyd Mahaffey, Jack Lee Mahaffey, and Thomas Glenn Mahaffey.The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 990, Lancaster, SC 29721 or to Elon University.Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mr. Mahaffey
