Mr. William G. “Bill” Williams, Jr., 93, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Westminster Towers in Rock Hill. He was born January 19, 1924 in Charlotte, a son of the late William G. Williams, Sr. and Essie Moretz Williams. He was a life-long residence of Lancaster, graduating from Lancaster High School in 1940. He attended The Citadel, where his entire Junior class was inducted into the U.S. Military for service in World War II. Mr. Williams served with the 84th Infantry Division, and was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge in January 1945. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. After two years in Army hospitals, Mr. Williams returned to Lancaster where he worked for 39 years in Spring Mills Laboratory management positions. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, serving at one time as Jr. Warden. He served on the Lancaster County School Board for 20 years, serving as chairman. He also served as treasurer on the South Carolina School Boards Association. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Williams will be held Friday, December 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Lancaster Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill McCown officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the West Side Cemetery. Mr. Williams is survived by three sons, and their wives, W. Greene III (Karen), Thomas H. (Robin), Paul Y (Patricia); his daughter, Laura Beth Gregory (Benji); seven grandchildren, William T. Williams (Kate), Matthew Williams (Lindsay), Erin Shell (Hogan), Lauren Williams, Michael Killingsworth (Lauren), Katherine Killingsworth and Stephen Killingsworth; six great grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia McDowell of Kershaw. In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Young Williams. His first wife, the former Betty Jeanne Harper Williams, died in 1956. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2017 at Lancaster Funeral Home.
