Mr. William Edison “Edd” Helms, 92, of Lancaster passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Lancaster Convalescent Center. He was born June 5, 1922 in Waxhaw, NC, a son of the late William Curtis Helms and Dolly Carter Helms. He was the widower of Frankie “Lucy” Hargett Helms. Mr. Helms was a member of White Springs Baptist Church and was a Mason and lifetime member of Jackson Lodge # 53, and a U.S. Army Veteran.A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Helms will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 2 pm at the Chapel of Lancaster Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.Mr. Helms is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Hendrix and her husband Joe of Kershaw and Myra Gleaton and her husband Cecil of Lancaster; three brothers, Dewey and his wife Janice of Alton N.C., Bobby and his wife Ray of Lancaster, and William and his wife Billie of Belmont N.C.; grandchildren, Shannon Gleaton and his wife Sandy and Amanda Hensley and her husband Ronnie; Great-Granddaughters Brianna Gleaton and Caden Hensley and a special nephew David Steele of Gastonia, N.C. He was preceded in death by a grandson Derek Neil Hendrix, a brother Lee Helms, and sisters Odessa Baker, Mary Ellen Steele, Willie Mae Pardue, Lula Gordon, and Bernice JohnsonThe family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Lancaster Funeral Home.Memorial contributions may be made to White Springs Baptist Church Life Center 1249 Grace Ave. Lancaster, SC 29720 in lieu of flowers.Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mr. Helms.
