Leslie Howard Childers

Mr. Leslie Howard Childers, 71, of Lancaster passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 at his home. He was born May 19, 1946 in Lancaster, a son of the late John Thomas Childers and Mary Myrtle Adams Childers. Mr. Childers was a member of First Baptist Church. He married the love of his life on August 4, 1968. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved watching birds. He was a ham radio operator. Mr. Childers graduated from Heath Springs High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Chemistry from Mars Hill College. He retired from International Paper Company and attended the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in 1994. Mr. Childers joined the Lancaster Police Department and retired as a Lieutenant in 2007. He was an avid Gamecock fan.A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Childers will be held Monday, May 7, 2018 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Lancaster Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.Mr. Childers is survived by his wife, Sonja Copeland Childers; two daughters, Melonie P. Grantham and her husband Earl, Jr. and Cicely C. Truesdale all of Rock Hill; a brother, John Thomas Childers, Jr. and his wife Norma of Monroe; two grandchildren, Keely Grace Truesdale, and Wyatt Grantham; and a number of nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2018 at Lancaster Funeral Home and other times at his home.Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Park Road – Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mr. Childers.Read Obituary
