Mr. John Robert Gardner, 87, formerly of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Agape Hospice of Lexington. He was born March 6, 1930 in Lancaster, a son of the late Gilbert Rhine Gardner and Georgia Byrd Gardner. Mr. Gardner was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church and was a former Sunday School Director and former choir member. He was a US Army Korean War Veteran and a member of the American Legion of Jefferson. Mr. Gardner was an avid USC Gamecock and New York Yankees fan. He was the former owner of Gardner’s Produce.A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Gardner will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 2 pm at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Corder and Rev. Bart Miles and Rev. Bobby Joyner officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife, Doris Bradley Gardner of Lexington; a son, Wayne Gardner and his wife Tammy of Lexington; two brothers, Shelton Gardner and his wife Dot of Kershaw and Ray Gardner and his wife Pauline of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Nicole Trull, Will Gardner, Heather Nobles, Hannah Gardner and Lindsey Gardner; and eight great-grandchildren, Zane Hunter, Halyn Grace Nobles, Ashlyn Morell, Graham Nobles, Noah Morell, Liam Trull, Aliveah Holley and Aubrey Holley. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Don Gardner, Bill Gardner and Minor Gardner; and a sister, Helen Sistare.The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Mt. Robert and our dad were cousins and buddies growing up. Dad has dementia but still loves to tell the story of he and Robert getting their first job together at the Lancaster mill when they were teenagers.
