Mr. Edward Coy Williams, 71, of Lancaster, husband of Harriett Anne Stevens Williams, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was born February 1, 1947 in Greenville, a son of the late Edward Eugene Williams and Mary Loraine Parker Williams. Coy was a graduate of Lancaster High School and member of the Class of 1965. He attended the University of South Carolina, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree as well as his Master’s in Business. Coy served in the Air Force and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as an usher. Coy had worked in the accounting department of Springs, had served as finance director for the City of Lancaster, and as the controller for First Federal Savings and Loan. He owned and operated Williams Department Store for twenty years and managed commercial real estate for seventeen years. He was a charter member of the Breakfast Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was formerly a member of SERTOMA, and had served on the board as well as president of our local United Way.A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Williams will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. A private burial with Military Honors will be in the West Side Cemetery.Mr. Williams is survived by his sweetheart and wife of fifty years, Harriett Anne Stevens Williams; two sons, Dr. William Harrison “Bill” Williams and his wife Dr. Kari Williams of Asheville and Matthew Stevens “Matt” Williams and his wife Meg Williams of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Sarah Anne Williams, Harrison Finlay Williams, Sloane Ellis “Shug” Williams, and Sybil Coy Williams; a brother, Donald Eugene “Don” Williams and his wife Judy Williams of Lancaster; and Sherren Dale Williams Hanna and her husband Chuck Hanna of Batesburg.There will be a reception following the service at First United Methodist Church.Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 608, Lancaster, SC 29721 or to Epworth Children’s Home, 2900 Milwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29205.Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mr. Williams.

George Arnold

Coy was one of the friendliest and easy-to-talk-to people I've ever known. I will long remember his welcoming smile and his penchant for colorful shoes. Condolences to Harriet Anne and family from me, my sister Patty and my brother-in-law Alan Noll.
