Mrs. Beverly Ann Blackmon Powers, 74, died Saturday, February 6, 2016. She was born August 27, 1941, in Lancaster, SC, a daughter of the late Harvey and Maxine Baker Blackmon. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Carl Ross Powers.A member of First Baptist Church, she had retired from Springs Industries, where she worked for 27 years, beginning as a key punch operator upon her graduation from Lancaster High School in 1959. She ultimately became the first woman to serve as the company’s computer room manager. Throughout her life, she was active in the Lancaster Community, particularly in the arts, having operated both a ceramics shop and a crafts store. She was a founding member of the Lancaster County Arts Council, and she enjoyed cooking, shopping, and writing letters to friends.A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Powers will be held Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Hatcher and Dr. Thomas H. Norrell officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.Mrs. Powers is survived by a daughter, Mandy Powers Norrell and her husband Mitch of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Powers Thaddeus “Teddy” Norrell and Emma Ross Isabella Norrell both of the Lancaster; two brothers, Calvin C. Blackmon and his wife, Catherine, and Thomas M. Blackmon and his wife, Margaret; five sisters – in – law, Sandra Blackmon, Carol Blackmon, Betty Powers Murphy, and her husband Dan, Kathy Powers James and her husband, Randy, and Evelyn Powers Massey; and a brother – in – law, Clelon Baker and his wife, Betty. In addition to her beloved husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Blackmon Baker and Mary Ellen Blackmon Johnson; and three brothers, Harvey Reece Blackmon, Walter Taylor Blackmon and Roger Burt BlackmonThe family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Social Hall.Memorial contributions may be made to the Lancaster County Council for the Arts, 201 West Gay Street, Lancaster, SC 29720, or to First Baptist Church, PO Box 670, Lancaster, SC 29721-0670.Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mrs. Powers.
